Respray price?
Just wondered what everyone thought on pricing for a colour change respray?
I've never had a car painted so have no idea what money would have to change hands for a nice paint job. I'm thinking 2nd gen in theory

Re: Respray price?
I second the £4k estimate and £1500 for a basic blow over. With a 2nd gen it would never be a case of rub down the top coat and change the colour.Tim G wrote:Just wondered what everyone thought on pricing for a colour change respray?

Re: Respray price?
I had hoped the price opinions would be £4-5k.
I know what you mean Ian, there would surely be a lot more to it with a 2nd gen

Re: Respray price?
If the bodywork was A1 then I would re-estimate down to £2000 for a decent colour change job but only if you were not painting the interior metal work i.e behind the plastic panels, above headliner and beneath carpet etc. a basic rub down of the top coat in preparation for the new colour top coat wouldn't take long and the results would likely be good. The door shuts are not an issue to do and neither is the boot. Under the hood is usually a different colour to the bodywork anyway apart from the outer wing lips.
Only issue with doing it that way is that it's always viewed as a cheap cop out to hide something or half assed effort.
The only real option to ensure good paint for 5+ years is a full strip out, glass out and bare metal job.

Re: Respray price?
The price very much depends on how much work your prepaired to put in stripping the car etc to make life easier for painter to reduce his man hours, i think you could get a complete colour change down to £1500-£2000

Very good point about doing some of the prep work, that's definitely the way I would try to do it.
Re: Respray price?
that's what we did with Davids, sorted body and primed (don't flat the primer, as its best done just before spraying or it will get surface contaminents on it while standing)
