Hate to say this as its sometimes taken as not helpful, but in the long run the best thing to use is new metal if the rust has taken hold.

If its just surface rust then wire brush and red oxide + hammerite top coat paint. In my experience rust converters dont work very well, they may stop the appearance of rust but they dont create strength and it always comes back. I got rid of all surface rust under mine and then painted with hammerite and then undersealed with waxoyl.

any badly corroded bits where replaced with fresh steel and then given the same painting and waxoyl treatment.

Have you heard of POR 15, I've been using it, wont use anything else now -- you can find it at frost restoration.

yes por 15 is good stuff or i use tetroseal under body coating its the best i feel, waxoil is ok but not the best as it does not like fresh steel and stays pretty wet so you get covered when working on your car but tetroseal drys and leaves a a slightly rubber finish :thumb:

Yes its an ongoing thing with these old cars. They are never really "done" as there is always something to do.
