Metallic or normal paint?

Post by Firebreather » Sat Jan 03, 2015 1:11 pm

I'm planning for respray, and have a few paint decisions to make.

I know it has to be black :D but should I go for flat black or metallic? What are the pros and cons of each? I've heard that with metallic paint if it gets scratched then its a lot harder to fix. Can the paint still be blended in or does a whole panel have to be painted which could be expensive if the rear quarter gets scratched?

And what colour black is good? I don't really care about it being the original pontiac black, I'd rather have a bit more of a common one. So what's a good one as there's probably a million different blacks?

Dark black is better :D

Metallic would look cool, yes there is a possible issue with matching but if you went back to same person it's not a problem.

My other car is a silver metallic. It's a little harder to blend but in the right hands the paint can be blended in properly. Personally, black metallic would look the business :thumb:

Mettallic Black requires a clear coat over the base coat, making it more expensive, straight gloss doesnt require clear coating, so it tends to be cheaper to do, plus its easier to blend ( especially black ).
