Hot air sucked into cabin

Post by bhm1712 » Sun May 18, 2014 10:50 pm

Im having a wee bit of bother trying to work out why my fan is always blowing hot air into the cabin - on days like today its no good.

I know the "cool" outside air is sucked in through the right hand vent on the cowel panel, but what controls the air blowing through the matrix?

Under my dash on the passenger side i have the heater box with a large vent on the front which opens and closes depending on what setting i have the controls set to. The bit which fits on top of this vent is missing from my car at the moment so the air enters the cabin at this point, not through any other ducting.

or it may be possible that the hot air is coming in from somewhere else - holes in the firewall where a gromit should be etc

I think I have solved this. There is no grommet in the firewall where the heater harness comes through so there's basically a 2.5 inch gaping hole in the firewall allowing the air blown from the radiator fan to come right into the foot wells.
