Rear demister switch

Post by fairlo » Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:12 pm

Hi all

have just got my first firebird a 90's V6, rather embarrassingly i am looking for some help locating the rear demister switch i am sure it is staring me in the face but i cant see it and have no manual, any help would be much appreciated. I also have a strange starting issue that i am sure is through my doing that i could use a bit of help with.

thanks all

Not all cars were fitted with a rear demister, should be where John suggested. Is there the heating element in the rear screen?

The stalk functions are for the cruise control and wiper/washers.

yes, it has cruise control (press the button to engage) but posibly no rear window demist
could be replacement rear hatch, or maybe they all have the heating element built in :-/

Don't worry, you're not missing out. Even if the button was there it wouldn't be working! I've had 5 firebirds all with rear demister, and it didn't work on any of them.

But the cruise control has always worked :)

I don't have a rear demist and never had a problem really.

Older second gens had an electric blower and heater element in the boot which blew onto the rear screen!! Maybe you could retrofit one of those of you really want one. Thus often come up on eBay usa

See if you can see wires coming from the glass and follow them to the loom.
Still might not work though

if its anything like second gens, the majority of the loom was standardised for each model, however options like rear demister and deluxe lamp group etc were all wiring add ons and so not present in cars without the options fitted. Not sure if they changed that by the time it was 3rd generation though.
