high guy need a bit of help,after rebuild t5 gearbox with new bearings etc have realised teeth are shot on gears,so considering converting to auto as cant seem to track down another gearbox without breaking the bank,could i get away with a th350 or what else

You can fit a th350 but you will need to find a way of attaching the torque arm.I did it with my first 3rd gen,a 82 but can't remember what i did to fit the bracket to the box.I am sure i have seen a bracket that you can buy to make it fit but can't remember where i saw that either,was a long time ago.Easiest would be a 700r4 or a 200r4 but both are not easy to find,although more chance of finding a 700 than a 200.
I don't know if prop will need modifying as i don't know length of a manual box.When i did mine it was a swap from a 200 to a 350 and was same length,a 700 is longer.

Here's another type of bracket.looks like it bolts tp the tailshaft,don't really like it myself as the box is only aluminium so i wouldn't imagine it being strong enough to take the strain. http://www.hotrod.com/techfaq/hrdp_1206 ... _firebird/
