leaks after leaving for a few weeks

Post by firemonk » Wed Jul 16, 2014 9:27 pm

Hi.

I left my bird for 2 weeks and then moved it from one parking space to the next.
I then noticed a day later that there was a small oil leak. I then placed some card underneath and the next day I find a water leak and no oil.
Looking at the dip stick the oil is low but only slightly. I expected it to be low.
Also the water in the tank looks fine.
I turned the engine over briefly and the next day there is a small Patch of oil at the rear of the card and water at the front.
Checked the dipstick and no white, the oil looks clean.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can check please?

best thing to do is get underneath it and look for the tell tale streaks of oil and coolant from the leaks. Oil will be obvious if the engine is pretty clean and coolant usually leaves a white residue where it has dripped.

Otherwise there is no way of guessing...it could be anything from a core plug leak or hose come loose for the coolant leak and many many things for the oil

water at front is probably either waterpump, bottom hose or radiator
oil from rear could be rear crank seal, oil filter /housing or oil switch (above filter)

Thanks. Im just organizing somewhere to jack it up and have a proper look.
Its a bit strange its water and oil both from separate sides of the engine. Could it be head gasket but only leaking on the outside of the block / head?

Could be but seems odd if it just went like that.

Could just be a coincident that 2 things started leaking at the same time

I noticed the water was a little bit oily. I am thinking that perhaps its my air con unit leaking. (which hasnt worked for a while, and I noticed I left the switch in the on position)
Perhaps the leak has leaked round the front and rear of the engine (the rear side is a bit oily so picking up some block oil on route to the floor, where as the front is pretty clear)

Am I thinking that this could be a possibility?
