Pontiac Tuning and Head Porting

Post by Beardog » Fri Jul 18, 2014 12:23 pm

Just bought a 1979 Trans Am, with the W72 motor, and can't believe how slow this car is. I love the car, but cannot live with something that is such a sheep in wolf's clothing.

Can anybody recommend a good engine builder and/or head porting firm in the UK who really knows these engines? So far everybody I've spoken to is only confident dealing with Chevy or Ford motors.

Try Robin at Autopontiac, he races a quick 2nd Gen., so will know exactly what to do for more speed.

Robin is the guru with Pontiac engines.

He can build you a custom 461 stroker motor from your 400 or modify your 400 to produce more HP and torque.

Usually there are several easy things to do to a 79 to open up at least 30 horsepower.

Open up the back of the shaker scoop, ditch any emissions stuff like the air pump and smog stuff, rejet the carb and you'll be well on the way to 30hp more and added torque.
