Anyone got any idea what these bits are off?
Was putting the new rocker nuts on today and found some bits of metal on the heads, not a clue where they have come from, look like they were clips of some sort. There is nothing in the heads that i can think of that look like these,or the rest of the engine for that matter,so i assume they have come from lower down. But is the pressure of the oil pumping round the engine enough to bring them up from lower down the engine.
Didn't have much time to do anything today so will have to look tomorrow,i guess i will need to start by draining the oil into a clean tub to see if anything else comes out.
The odd thing is both lots were found at the rear of the engine on both sides, cylinders 7 and 8.

Could they be crankcase breather pipe clips, doesn't look like anything from the heads at all.

there are no holes big enough in the heads for those to come through! the oil gets to the rocker area through the centre of the push rods only. The larger holes are for drain back only so no pressure there.
odd! not seen anything like that in my valve cover area

Not measured them but i reckon if the bits made a full circle they would be about half an inch in diameter, maybe a bit bigger.I asked on a Firebird page on facebook and replies were valve stem seals and seeing a pic of one they do look like it but i don't have that type of seal,i have o rings.
Someone else said spring damper but i am pretty sure mine don't have them.
Hoping to get time to remove some springs today as i can't think of anywhere else they could have come from.
Valve stem seal
I think the damper is top piece in this pic

They did..........was me Didn't realise i had fitted them and don't know why as i am sure they are the type that needs heads machining to fit.Just had a few of the springs off to check.Need to check a couple more as i think one of my inner springs has bits broken off,it don't look quite as flat on the edge as one of the others.SUPERCHARGEDGTA wrote:they do look like the valve seal clips

I guess the good thing is,as long as springs are ok i can just remove all those seals and just leave the o rings in place so won't cost me anything but time.Couldn't get one of the header bolts out so been doing it with head in place using compressed air and a home made tool.
Feel like a right plonker,LOL.

Took a pic of the spring that i assume is broke,it's only the tip,not a great pic but wondering should i just put it back.Spring is still same height as other inner springs.

The one on the left tapers off but the one on the right is flat at the end.
