Been having an annoying problem lately of lack of revs when idling causing the engine to cut out, it mostly happens when coming down from fast speeds such as junctions and sometimes when reversing, it usually idles about 700-800 rpm, wondering if there is a way to up the revs manually or is it an ecu job, its an auto box.
Cheers

Hi Ashley, your car is on the cusp of carb or injection as they changed in 87. Is yours a carb version?

This problem is usually a distributor problem, pull the cap off and check inside and on the base of the distributor, this could be all mouldy and green which means its not been serviced recently.
Usually a pick up coil and module sorts the problem, whilst your there put new cap and rotor on,
in extreme circumstances the distributor shaft looses its magnetism and cannot trip the pickup.
A sure way of identifying the problem is if it will usually restart easily after stalling then its the distributor, age old problem this one.

Bought a new cap and rotor, should be arriving soon. Also I wondered if the problem lies in the stepper motor on the front of the intake? Are these prone to sticking and are the repairable or would it mean buying a new one
Cheers
