Removing Rad - Oil from transmission coolant lines

Post by 214jay » Fri Aug 31, 2012 7:18 pm

Hi

Just removed the Radiator from my 89 Firebird 350TPI and have removed the metal lines that run to the Auto transmission. When I removed these quite a lot of oil drained out...is this normal? Is oil pumped to a separate compartment in the rad or something? :-?

Cheers

its just like a tube running through the rad. side tank, in and out
dont forget to top-up the gearbox when you have finished
and dont start the engine while the oil pipes are disconnected :naughty:

Thanks for the advice, need to change the transmission fluid anyway but will make sure its at correct level...though should think it will be a while until it starts again...doing quite a large stripdown and rust treatment!!
