tilt column on my third gen is a little bit worn
when locked in place i can pull the wheel down to the left about a quarter inch
i assume this will fail mot which is due soon
stripped the column , all bolts tight .
problem is the left tilt pin housing itself is worn pin is fine.
i bodged some jb weld in and bashed the pin in left for a couple of days
still the same
what are my options.
recon column or can i buy just the tilt housings and new pins

2nd hand column is the easiest/cheapest I would think
there is a 3rd gen being broken on here somewhere

Hi Caz 3rd gen has the same prob it's not worn it's the 4 bolts come loose in the tilt it's a common fault you can do it yourself if you like fiddley jobs I'm in the middle of sorting one out now

Don't know if they ship to the UK but this place sells all the bits, new, used and re con
http://www.steeringcolumnservices.com/g ... s-tilt.php
But Rocky at American Technique is probably best to try for a used column.

You can repair a worn pin but sometimes easier just to replace column. They all go like that eventually as the pins are hardened and the housing is alloy.
