Disappointed with your disc brakes?

Post by Mick Clark » Sat Nov 10, 2018 4:40 pm

I fitted a SSBC front disc brake conversion to my first gen some time ago but was always a little disappointed with them. It's based on the OEM disc brake option and, I suspect, may have included semi-metallic pads as supplied. In trying to identify the issue, I did make sure that everything was working as it should, including fitting a vacuum pump and bias valve but without any improvement.
After a little reading - and suspecting the SSBC pads - I decided to try a set of EBC Ultimax pads as a last resort. I bought DP1145 (about £42) for generic GM single-piston calipers as fitted to first and second gen F Bodies.
First impression is a massive improvement in performance, particularly from cold.

So if you're disappointed with your brakes, I'd certainly try a set of these before I spent a packet on uprated discs and calipers.
