4th gen exhaust
Hi hope someone can help. I have a 97 trans am and I am looking for a cat back exhaust. I am currently looking at magnaflow but I am open to suggestions. I like the throatyness of the magnaflow but are there other roads I can take like a custom build. I am just about to buy a exhaust valve so I can get the most out of the v8 burble. Any help appreciated. Cheers
Re: 4th gen exhaust
I prefer the tone of the magnaflow myself, though other makes are cheaper
had a magnaflow on mine for at least 8 years, perfect quality

Re: 4th gen exhaust
Have you heard one with a cut out valve at all ?
Re: 4th gen exhaust
got a cutout on mine too
great bit of kit, fitted where the cat. used to be. awesome sound, almost solid
but nice to be able to shut it for a long run and to talk to passengers at motorway speeds (and when passing police cars)

Re: 4th gen exhaust
idealy instead of the cat, but dose depend on your MOT tester.
in theory as a foreign import not sold new in this country it should not need a cat. test but some MOT testers do
if you keep the cat then before cat is louder but you will need to retune ECU to ignore post cat/2nd O2 sensors or you will get an SES/fault light come on
after the cat will be louder but not as loud

Re: 4th gen exhaust
I got Robin at Autopontiac to do my 4th Gen. 3" Stainless steel with a cherry bomb backbox. Sounds really good. and price was very good.

Re: 4th gen exhaust
I can vouch for Montrose's exhaust sounding good - heard it at the 25th anniversary bash and it sounded awesome.

Re: 4th gen exhaust
Robin is also doing my 1980 firebird with a 400 exhaust based purely on the sounds I've heard from systems they supply at Autopontiac! The best advert for an exhaust is its sound!!
