Flowmaster or Glass Pack?

Looking to change the mufflers on the car and undecided on what to get as there is not much in it when it comes to price.

I know there has been discussion on here I previous threads but wanted an opinion from the Pontiac Massive as to what your personal opinions are. For those of you that don't know, I have the 5.0 Chevy 305 motor.

I know it will sound even better once I get a set of headers fitted and an x pipe but it's a bit at time. I'm off to the US in March and hope to bring a pair back with me! If that's the case then its none of the above and instead, a pair of Flowmaster Super 10's as they are nice and small to fit in my case!

Glasspacks are LOUD, louder than what you have at the moment as i heard yours when you left autopontiac!

Flowmaster 40 series is amongst the favourites of Pontiac "massive" stateside and UK but they are a heavy muffler and so will need extra support from above (according to robin the best place is to drill and mount a hanger behind the rear seat backs which hangs down and connects around the muffler outlet pipe)

Yours to be honest sounded beasty and perhaps you should get somebody else to drive it while YOU listen from outside so you can hear it for yourself!

I think if i remember from looking underneath, you have turbo mufflers at the moment.

The way forward is a nice sounding exhaust not overly loud and then a set of cut outs for all out muscle noise

I'll have a look underneath when I get a mo to see what mufflers are on there.

what kind of sound are you looking for? also, are you wanting an aluminized mild steel system or stainless?

there are so many available for these cars - you can have twin silencers mounted where yours are now, you can have a transverse mounted single box in the space between the fuel tank and rear seat wells - this is how they were from the factory - helps if you want to lower the car in the future.....

size is important too - no need for anything larger than 2.25 inches from the headers to the boxes - you can go for larger diameter at the rear if you like. Larger than that with no other engine mods and you will probably end up losing some of that low down torque.

Had a look underneath yesterday and got a photo of the numbers on one of the mufflers. Have looked online but can't seem to match them up to anything.



Will definitely get someone to drive it for me so I can listen. I just like that growl when accelerating and that almost aluminiumised sound when idling.

you never realise how loud your car is while driving it. the exhaust being well behind you and pointing away from you

its only when we started filming each others cars we found out what our cars sounded like (and how good they sounded)

those mufflers are almost identical to the ones i have fitted at the moment....

They are basically a generic turbo muffler manufactured by what was formerly known as Tenneco. not sure of their new name.

nothing untowards about a generic turbo muffler - guys like Dynomax/Thrush and Summit racing are using rebranded Tenneco mufflers.

dont forget that Autopontiac do an exhaust system for our cars. One ive just bought....sounds good.I do have a a video somewhere of Big bad Bobs T/A with one fitted. Ill post it up later on
