bare alloy looks good when it is polished but it is a pain in the butt to keep shiny
mine need polishing up again watermarks etc

You convince me! I go for your way! The plan is changed now, to this:
1.prepare and paint the inner bit to graphite color.
2.sand the convex part to shiny,and leave it intact
3.sand and polish the verge to very shiny,and leave it intact.
It's much easier and cheaper too!

I think you are right too,but worth to try it.
If it is going to be really p.i.t.a then it's time to put some clear coat on. It isn't too late to do.

I'd keep it bare, yes it's PITA to keep shiny but it looks better. Once you get water ingress in lacquer it will look sh!t and then you'll have to strip it again so go for the bare metal

definately worth the effort, give them a good wheel-wax and they stay shiny longer

with a garage like yours john it helps too ours are outside in the elements i like em shiny tho get the autosol out soon
