Re: Holley 4bbl question
I know not all 400s had a return line but it may be a better solution to fit a pump with a return port and run a fuel line - it may already be there. Helps to keep the fuel cool so as soon as you crank the engine the fuel line from the pump to the carb gets a blast of fresh cool fuel. Best alternative is to him the Holley and fit the proper Rochester carb which will perform reliably once set right. People seem to think aftermarket carbs are better but in reality the quadrajet is the best performing carb for our 400 motors.

got my phenolic spacer half inch one today just fitted it had to take the shaker rubber seal off to get the bonnet down tho ! its a little to high for my liking but if it works and does not boil the fuel is worth it !
the carb feels cool after i got the engine up to temprature the manifld is warm ! so hopefully it will work ok as it felt warm before fingers crossed

Re: Holley 4bbl question
yeah holleys are a bit of a pain in the a*rse on most cars do tend to take a bit of fettling often, rochester is better or edlebrook ones are good, i have found a lot of the machanical poncho pumps have a return line, i would say wrap the exhurst that will help are you still running the machanical fan or electric fans, also check where the fuel lines have been routed in the engine bay may not be where they were from the factory, also you can wrap the fuel lines i had to do that with a 350 chevy overfinch rangerover i had as it was always getting vapourisation of the fuel ,also the original in engine bay metal fuel lines from the pump act like conductors so will vapourise the fuel aswell
Re: Holley 4bbl question
would a rochester fit straight on a elderbock mainfold ? looks different
Re: Holley 4bbl question
Would it help if you had a air pipe on your air filter coz it's sucking hot air in from the rad fan and exhaust manifold ??
Re: Holley 4bbl question
Is the tube to the filter blocked off in engine still could let a lot of hot air in if not
Re: Holley 4bbl question
blocked off now
this is my set up i want the rochester to fit this and drop the spacer out again as my shaker is to high and get the seal back on it again ive ordered the ebay one hope it cures the hot start fault

Re: Holley 4bbl question
No.
Rochester for a poncho should have a front mounted inlet and a straight one not angled.
