Re: rochester quadrajet
My procedure for doing it without the colour tune is:
Back off the idle speed screw on the throttle linkage until it's no longer touching the throttle actuator and so the throttles are closed. Then screw in the idle mixture screw on the right hand side until the engine almost stalls at idle - will run rough. Then screw out the idle mixture screw until the revs stop getting higher. This is a small rev change not hundreds of rpm. Then 1/4 turn back in. Do the same for the left hand idle mixture screw. Then set the idle speed screw to 800 ish rpm. Not too low or the oil pressure will be too low at idle

Re: rochester quadrajet
Worth noting that if your engine stalls when you have backed off the idle speed screw that's usually a good indication the idle mixtures are not set right.

Re: rochester quadrajet
both are fine when running right, both are a pain in the ring when they play up/don't run right
