Ressurecting Hot air Choke

Anybody got experience with this? all the bits are still on my carb, including the hot air pipe which disappears down into the intake manifold and back out. The choke flap has been mechanically locked open to prevent it closing, the choke pull off diaphragm has a hole in it and so needs replacing and the actual choke coil (is it called that on a hot air choke?) looks well past it.
Im sure with perseverance and a bit of spending, it could be done.
YES....i know that it will start ok without the choke if you pump the gas and hold the revs higher once started, but im trying to go original! Ive heard hot air chokes are reliable as opposed to electric chokes
