What are the symptoms?

Is it causing starting problems? does it have a choke? is it a quadrajet?

The usual suspect with a quadrajet is the float - its gets holes in it and so sinks, allowing fuel to constantly pump in. Usually you can diagnose this by seeing the fuel soaking through the gaskets and leaking on the outside where the gaskets stick out of the body pieces....and you normally get a squirt out of the accelerator pump shaft bore too.....

Otherwise, its probably the jetting. I dont know of anybody in your area, but Robin at Autopontiac currently has my carb at his place for a rebuild as it was flooding too.....The float did have a hole in it.... But i doubt it would be ready in time for a sunday week. (i posted mine to him as its a long drive from Notts as well..)

Is it flooding just when you try and start it from cold?

it's a holy and its flooding when it's running and the fuel runs down the side of the carb

Sounds like a float issue to me if you can see it leaking on the outside if the carb.

could just need float level adjusting or could be valve worn or just muck in it stopping it seating
if you dont have a manual check on line for instructions to set float hight

Had a holley on my 78, did just the same, more than likely a float issue, sometimes they get gummed up and stick, you neec to take the top off the carb and have a look on the float for a jelly substance, did it on my holley and cured it, must say though, if you can get a Qjet, id swap it as its a much better carb.

if you take it apart and take photos at each stage you remove something, and label any loose parts up / stick them down to a piece of paper and write what it is you should not have any issues! just take it steady and slowly!

I posted my carb to robin and he worked on it while I was away. It came back yesterday and he's done a marvellous job. It's never looked so clean and shiny and he has fixed all the issues with linkages etc which I had. Gonna fit it this weekend. Mines a QJ. Robin reckons Quadrajet's are the best for our cars regardless of other manufacturer claims etc
