Hi,
When i removed my carb, below the base gasket and ontop of the intake manifold holes there was a metal shim in the same shape as the gasket. I forgot to ask robin about this. My question is - do i need this metal shim? its only about 0.3 mm thick. On the websites ive looked at ive not found anything quite the same, and the ones i did find are apparently supposed to be fitted directly above the base gasket and are to prevent burn through....
The shim i have, has small folded pieces of metal which locate into the openings on the manifold so as to locate it centrally.

a bit like this, however this one does not have the folded/pressed edges to the holes which locate into the inner face of the openings on the manifold:

dont remember if it was on the last one I did but that was about 15+ years ago
but if it was fitted originaly then best to refit I would think

ive done it - works fine and no leaks. Car running much better now and doesnt stink so much when idling from the exhaust!
