this is how i fitted a Tevion head unit into my second gen. you can fit whatever you like.....as long as your handy with wiring.

The threads are not brilliantly detailed so if you need help just post here. You do have the advantage that yours still has the original radio and so all the wiring will be easy to identify unlike mine which were missing any plugs and was all over the place. I would recommend upgrading the speakers though as the factory ones are poor in terms of modern standards.

is there an adaptor available to convert to a standard iso conection or just a case of chopping the wires

It's easier to chop and splice a new ISO connector in. You need to introduce new wiring to fit a new head unit so as far as I know there is not a converter available.

My din cage fitted ok - a tad loose but I was able to bend the tangs on the cage which hold it in place enough to hold it in there tight. It's not shifting anywhere. If your not happy with that you could fabricate a plate which is shaped to fit the old radio position and has a hole perfectly sized for the new din cage.you can then drill some small holes into the plastic around the original hole and in the new plate and bolt it in place. Get some countersunk bolts so it looks neat

There is no rear support most of the weight is taken by the front but I got a piece if flat steel and made a rear supporting leg to keep the radio held up at the back. It rests on the transmission tunnel behind the dash

I think we are mistaken. He is talking about a third gen radio. I thought it was a 78 second gen
