Audio for 3rd gen firebird - question of size
hi
I was looking to get a 3rd gen firebird but it doesnt have a radio fitted. Is there any size restrictions - i.e is it single or double din?
Thanks

They are double DIN but you can get adapter modules easily enough to take a standard single DIN head unit.
Re: Audio for 3rd gen firebird - question of size
frount speakers 4x6, rear are 6x9 or 4x6 with 4" subs depending on spec.
Can get cages for din radios so they fit - though i think one is for sale in parts atm for next to nothing.
You will also need to cut a tiny bit of plastic from the pod (if you want it mounted flush) as new radios are longer, easy 5 min job.
If you get it and want the factory wiring colours give me a shout- just swapped my stock one and speakers out
Now go buy the car

Pick up a stereo for your car from a 4th gen, say model year 2000. It'll basically bolt in, but only get the ones with the "wings" and now the slide brackets. Take a look at www.thirdgen.org for more info on what to look for. Then, do a google search for the harness adapter (mine cost $20.00 or so) and plug it in. It's plug and play! And you get a CD player option with it.joyousjake wrote:hi

When I get my car there, I'll show you what I had to do but it was basically a bolt in operation with minimal modification. The only real work I had was that the opening in the third gen cars is smaller than the 4th gen stereo face, so I had to use my dremel to widen it.

4th gen stereos are 1.5 din. I thought 3rd gens were double din? So how come the 4th gen stereo was too big for your 3rd gen?
