ipod touch transmitter thingy

Post by p wheels » Fri Mar 19, 2010 3:20 pm

Does anyone know of a decent ipod transmitter thing that picks up on the radio, that will charge an ipod touch as well?

You could use a pure highway transmitter which has got a 3.5mm jack connector for ipod

Then get a charger like this

I retrofitted a stereo from a 2000 T/A into my 84 and wanted to use an IPOD. So, if you want to run an IPOD in a 4th gen 1998 and newer, use the following item. THey say it won't work on cars older than that because you don't have the AUX imput for the aux CD changer though on LS1 Tech there is instructions on how to mod your stereo to handle it if you're into that sort of thing. My suggestion would be to go on Ebay and buy a stereo from a 98 and newer Camaro/firebird, they'll bolt right in with no issues.

Anyway, the device is a GM9-AUX adapter. Only use the one from PIE though, the others are inferior (Found it on LS1Tech web site). It plugs into the back of your stereo where the CD changer would, and you can play your IPOD./IPONE through your car speakers. It will even allow you to use your phone as something of a hands free device. You use the phones speaker but the phone output will be played over the car speakers. It's pretty awsome, just set your stereo to "aux" and play your IPOD like normal. For charging, I just use an USB car charger and plug in the IPOD using that.

When I get there, I'll show you guys how it's hooked up if you want to see it.

If youve got a tape player, get one of those tape with the 3.5mm lead coming off it that will plug in. Theyre about a tenner and easy enough to find on the highstreet. I got mine from Tesco. It will plug into anything which has a 3.5mm socket so thats most phones... except Sony Ericcsson because they insist on making life difficult for people. ::)
