Lifting a car high off the ground safely

What is the best and safest way to lift a car high enough to replace headers? Instructions say 3 foot which is quite high. My ramps only go 12 inches, my stands also only 12 inches. Not a fan of wooden blocks unless its considered safe... And even then I don't think my trolley jacks to high enough either!!

We use wooden blocks all the time. We have 8x8 inch wooden black and just stack a couple of more on top of each other and have never had any trouble.

Does the car wobble around on the blocks??

Can you remember how high you got your brothers car off the ground to do his headers?

No, it does not move as long as you lower the car down on to the block in neutral so it can settle properly then it wont move. But you do need wide blocks to spread the weight out.

All our cars we put the headers in from the top. undo one side of the engine mounts and jack the engine slightly and the headers went in. James had long tube headers so we would have had to have lifted the car stupidly high to get them in from under the car.

You should be able to put your headers in from the top like us hopefully but not sure as I have never done them on a 2nd gen.

as long as the blocks are 8 inches at least then they are stable (you can put a block on top of a ramp, to increase stability)
then when its up put it in park, brakes on and wheels chocked it should not move
not done a 2nd gen, maybe someone will know if you can lift engine enough to get them in from the top

I have fitted Headers to a 455 the car was driven onto as set of ramps approx 12 inchs high the Cooling fan or rad shroud needs to be removed also the starter motor.
Place a trolley jack onto the sump with a block of wood. then remove both Engine mount bolts and carefully jack the engine up checking for any other parts that may stop the engine being raised.
the Headers are slid in from below it a bit fiddely but can be done this way.

Thanks Jeff that's good to know. Not heard anything about the 4 poster I might be allowed to use so I'll probably end up doing it on dads driveway.
