Metric or Imperial?

I've got a 68 Firebird with a 78 (we think) Firebird 400 engine. Should I invest in a metric or imperial socket set? Or do I need both?

I've been recommended this one as a basic kit, perhaps to keep in the car. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/94PC-1-2-1-4- ... 8729882491 There's a thread on it here: http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... 360&page=1.

Thanks in advance for any help.

GM and most us cars were mainly imperial till the late 80's
some american parts are still imperial, megashifters and the bolts that come with hooker headers for instance

Biggest problem is some of the late 79's onwards had metric spanner size but retained an imperial UNC thread.
