Inadequate windscreen wiping - pulse mod?

On the way home from Langford yesterday the heavens opened, and whilst the wipers were fine during the real heavy showers when it died down and was just spotting down I got rather annoyed at either having the wipers on constantly and so squeaking cos there was not enough water, or by having to keep turning them on and off when needed. Can a wiper pulse mod be done easily to the standard wiper system which doesn't have a pulse setting?

easy as in not having to hack any of the under dash area out, or changing the wiper motor itself. Wiring wise im not worried about!

I thought that would have the pulse setting Ian as my Firebird has it, or was that another one of the many options available?

Paul.

If the timer is on the actual switch then it could be an easy fix by fitting a different switch perhaps?

The switch doesn't contain the pulse system according to the diagrams. It's all to do with getting the pulse to work right and getting a signal from the wiper motor that it is in the parked position - so the wipers don't stop during the sweep. I've found a few modules online which can do it but they work as standalone from the main switch.

It was an optional extra taffy, as everything!!

Maybe one of these would work, says works on older cars and cheap enough to try

I've been meaning to get one for a while to try on mine but as I don't take it out in rain that often never got around to it.

Ian, I think it could actually be on the switch because between the pulse setting and the normal speed setting, the switch slides and as it moves closer to the normal setting, the delay between wipes gets shorter so you can even adjust the pulse setting!

Get a switch and give it a try.

According to the service manual, the wiper motor assembly holds all the extra wiring and relay for the delay/pulse so maybe changing the switch will indeed "unleash" the extra capabilites within! :D
