Side markers

Post by warlord » Mon Jul 28, 2014 6:45 pm

I've been getting mums Grand Am ready for MOT as it has been off the road for a year. I've just investigated the dim side repeater and ended up restoring the factory side marker function.
I know that having the yellow side markers on with the lights is fine for MOT for a thirdgen. But these are a lot more towards the front, so thought I'd better check that's ok. I took a pic with the side lights on.
Thank you

I'm not an mot expert but I'd say unless it's a yank friendly mot then it wouldn't be ok.

I don't know the history of the dim side repeater fault but I would imagine it was due to a bad ground - usually the side marker and repeater have a floating ground and if one function is removed then the lamp won't have a proper ground and would suffer volt drop.

A seperate ground on the lamp would have probably solved it

side markers can be classed as daylight running lights, and are additional to sidelights etc. so are not part of the MOT test
only lights required for the test are part of the test (like cars with 2 rear fog lights, if the nearside one dose not work it is not a fail as it is an extra light, only 1 being required on the offside or centreline)
