I think power steering pipes came under MOT before the new rules, not 100% sure though.4v8s wrote:i suspect youve been a victim of incorrect application of the new MOT rules that came in Jan 1st. as I think certain items are now testable that werent before eg power steering system and pipes? so probably the testers just been a little over zealous and not been sure what the pipes were for. Maybe we can give a little leeway for this whilst the new rules are digested

Re: First MOT and its failed :-(
Well, not sure what they were thinking. I cannot fault them on the weldin and leaking brake hose but it was pretty damn obvious that those pipes marked were not power steering...To be fair they guy who MOT'ed the car looked very young but the main man who told me it not worth repairing was the guy who annoyed me. I can always forgive people for mistakes.

Re: First MOT and its failed :-(
Well I managed to get the car back to the test centre yesterday and it passed with no more problems.
In the end I rebuilt the caliper, fitted two new brake hoses, welded a part of the underbody and educated the MOT tester in the difference between power steering and coolant pipes!
Thanks for all your help!
Jay
