I think power steering pipes came under MOT before the new rules,not 100% sure though.

Well, not sure what they were thinking. I cannot fault them on the weldin and leaking brake hose but it was pretty damn obvious that those pipes marked were not power steering...To be fair they guy who MOT'ed the car looked very young but the main man who told me it not worth repairing was the guy who annoyed me. I can always forgive people for mistakes.

only for leaks, not rust

Well I managed to get the car back to the test centre yesterday and it passed with no more problems.

In the end I rebuilt the caliper, fitted two new brake hoses, welded a part of the underbody and educated the MOT tester in the difference between power steering and coolant pipes!
