Bleeding a 4th gen trans am

Post by Spinnybits » Sat Feb 22, 2014 1:56 am

I have changed the sensor under the battery tray but can't get the water señor light to go out. Is there a correct way to bleed the system. It's a 4th gen trans am ??)

If its the water instrument light check the water expansion tank float is working correctly.

there are a couple of bleed screws one near thermostat housing, one in a T piece on heater hose at front of engine near alt.

For the coolant level sensor mounted on the radiator, below the radiator fill cap, next to battery tray.
Check radiator and expansion reservior are at the correct levels. Then for 5.7L engines, turn the ignition from On to Run then Off, otherwise the LOW COOLANT light stays on. Hayes manual 24017. Pages 1-24 & 1-25, (30.13 -> 30.14)

Have been told it could be a head gasket by a bloke in work so now panicking. It starts and drives fine. No smoke no oil in the filler cap and now water from the exhaust. Also no power loss. In a worse case scenario how much would that be :puke:

is it losing water then?
if not then probably not headgasket
if water is blowing out header tank or disappearing then maybe
as suggested above, Robin or Rocky could test it
or ask a local MOT tester to check header tank for hydrocarbons with emission tester
